Vitamin D Analysis

Heartland Assays is equipped to provide analysis of Vitamin D and Vitamin D analogues for several different and complex matrices. By utilizing a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art analytical techniques, our goal is to provide competitive pricing and rapid turnaround without sacrificing accuracy. Here are the primary instruments we use for quantitation:

DiaSorin LIAISON® XL is an FDA approved high-efficiency instrument that is capable of running up to 15 different assays at a time. With a high throughput, this machine allows us to run high volumes of samples. We use it to perform chemiluminescence assays for total 25OH Vitamin D, 1,25(OH)2 Vitamin D and Parathyroid Hormone analysis (N-tact).  The DiaSorin LIAISON® XL also has the capacity to run Bone Alkaline Phosphatase (BAP) analysis, but please call beforehand to discuss this option.

High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is used to separate a mixture of compounds. Typically, we utilize different types of mobile and stationary phase chemistries. We use this equipment specifically to quantitate Vitamin D2, Vitamin D3, 25OH Vitamin D2, 25OH Vitamin D3, and to purify Vitamin D compounds for LC/MS/MS.

Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) is an analytical instrument that utilizes the chemistry technique of physical separation of liquid chromatography (or HPLC) with the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry. LC/MS/MS can be used for many applications, such as analysis for metabolites, hormones, amino acids, steroids, food contaminants, and vitamins with very high sensitivity and selectivity. Heartland Assays has acquired the Agilent 1290/6460 Series Triple Quadrupole LC/MS System to offer greater sensitivity for these applications. This system can be used for quantification of major forms of Vitamin D2 and Vitamin D3 including 25OH Vitamin D and 24,25(OH)2 Vitamin D, ergosterol and 7-dehydrocholesterol (7-DHC) in serum and other matrices. It offers the advantage of using deuterated analogs of Vitamin D2 or Vitamin D3 compounds as internal standards. The introduction of the LC/MS/MS into our laboratory allows us to complete sensitive and selective analysis of Vitamin D in complex matrices.
